Writing reviews can sometimes be a very difficult process.  I know, I know, it sounds easy, and hey, you get a chance to hear the new music before anyone else.  I admit, that is a very good part of it.  The difficulty comes in if you just take a moment to stop and think about what a review is.  It’s more than just a glowing review of a new album, and it’s more than just “free press” for an upcoming release.  Difficulty comes in when you go into writing a review with pre-conceived notions of what the artist will be like.  Hence my issue when I received the new Artoffact Records album “Do With Me What You Want” by En Esch and Mona Mur.

Most people that read this article will have their own preconceptions of what the album will be like.  When you hear En Esch, I am sure your mind goes automatically back to the time he spent with KMFDM.  For me, I started with that, and also started to remember an album En Esch did solo a few years back called Cheesy.  That changes all connotations about his time with KMFDM.  To be honest, even though I respect En Esch as a musician, Cheesy was not an album I would say to hold on to, or even purchase for that matter.  So I admit, I was truly a bit skewed when I was first presented with the new album by En Esch and Mona Mur.  Aye, there’s the caveat.  I neglected to remember Mona Mur and the time she has spent on her craft.

Mona Mur has a very impressive resume going all the way back to time spent collaborating with Einstürzende Neubauten.  That is what makes this album something to be excited about.  After listening to it, I was, and I am very excited by it.

Do With Me What You Want is quite frankly one of the best collaborations I have had the pleasure to hear.  There is grit, there is passion, there is motivation, and yes, there is even a little bit of what the hell was that?

Denver – This has been a great year for Gothic and Industrial Concerts in town, but it’s not over yet.  PharoahMoan Productions and
Backwards Records are teaming up to bring what may be the perfect next step in a long line of shows.  September 24^th, Denver will be hosting the last date of the Viscerex Complex Tour at the Larimer Lounge.

Android Lust made their first appearance in Denver in 2005, and have made a point to visit us each time they tour.  With the success of
their Denver stop on the Animalia Tour last year, they decided to pack an extra punch this time around with the addition of Co-Headliners Roughhausen.

Although a relatively new name to Denver fans, Roughhausen comes pre-stocked with a ton of Denver history and credentials in the Goth and Industrial Scenes.    The band features Jeff Stoddard, most well known for his time spent with Industrial Legends Skinny Puppy and Front Line Assembly, as well as man, many other various musical projects.

Introducing “Submerged.”  DJ Leprekon and DJ Fayce Hayven are bringing you the best in Goth, Industrial and Retro every Monday night.  They will also be bringing in Guests on a rotating basis to keep the music fresh and keep your asses on the floor.  It’s a return to the Goth nights we all grew up with.

The Promos can say whatever they want, but I always let my big mouth say what it wants to say anyway.  See, I am not a huge fan of “fusion” music.  I know, I know, I’m kind of a dick.  To the scene in general, pick a genre and stick with it.  But now on to actual matters of this album.  Not so much of a dick now.

So here we go!

I admit, I went into listening to this album a bit jaded.  When bands can’t describe themselves by one specific genre, I tend to discount them.  Sometimes, things change my mind.  As with 90% of the albums out there, most song titles will grab you simply by title alone.  However, on this album, there are a few songs that stand and pass that initial test.

What is the first thing you think of when you hear the term “Strip Me?”  Beside the obvious that is.  The song title has all the intention of being an offensive piece of shit.  Until you listen to it.  Everything you thought, makes you look back at yourself and say what?  The song gets under your skin, literally.  I don’t know what else to say but you won’t understand my banter until you hear it.

“Time of Change” was my next big love on this album.  I’m going through one, so it doesn’t seem false or trite.  It’s an honest song with a driving beat that won’t go away.  When lyrics still stick with you after listening to a song such as this, you know it means more than a production line slab of pop.

The other of my favourites on this album is of course, “I am God.”  Aren’t we all?  Anyway, the song starts out a bit droopy for me, but ends on a note that made me want to peel my sin off.  That’s not a typo.  All Hail OL!

Don’t take this the wrong way, because every song on this album has quite a story to tell.  All I could do, instead of bitch, was name my favourites.  Check it out.  It’s not your average tea-bag.  It means something.

Roughhausen made their United States Tour Debut this past Winter to the amazement of all, and the shock of some (if not most).  They put together incredible shows and made everybody think twice about what they thought they knew of Industrial Music.

Since the Tour, Roughhausen has been working on a Variety of Projects.  Along with around 90 bands, they were included in a very special fundraiser to benefit the victims of the Japanese Tsunami called Music for the Rising Sun. (more info here: http://www.facebook.com/mftrs)

The “Blood, Bones, & Cum Tour” made a huge impact in Cities across the Country, and they released a very special Limited Edition CD to Celebrate their Tour.
